POSITION SUMMARYJackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Billing Manager in our Houston office. The Billing Manager is responsible for coordinating client billing processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance with engagement terms, and adherence to firm billing guidelines. This role partners closely with attorneys, accounting leadership, and internal departments to deliver timely, accurate, and client‑compliant billing services.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Billing & Matter Setup
- Open and maintain client and matter records, including billing formats, rates, and contact details.
- Review engagement letters to ensure billing compliance and configure systems accordingly.
- Set up and manage special billing arrangements, rates, and disbursements.
- Apply trust/retainer funds at time of billing as needed.
- Submit e-bills, rates, budgets, appeals, etc. into various e-bill sites as needed.
Pre-Bill & Invoice Management
- Manage the receipt of prebills via the Prebill Manager application.
- Generate, distribute, and track pre-bills for attorney review and approval as requested.
- Follow up on outstanding pre-bills and escalate non-compliance to firm leadership.
- Edit and finalize bills per attorney instruction while ensuring adherence to firm billing policies.
- Process write-offs and billing adjustments as approved.
Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure compliance with firm billing guidelines and client billing requirements.
- Support internal audits and respond to billing-related inquiries.
- Partner with attorneys and firm leadership to address complex billing scenarios.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 7 years of legal billing experience; law firm experience required.
- Proficiency with legal accounting and e-billing systems;
Aderant experience highly preferred. - Strong knowledge of e-billing is required.
- Strong organizational, analytical skills.
- Strong computer proficiency in the following Microsoft Office programs – Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work under time constraints, alone or in a team environment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in person, by e‑mail, and telephone to provide information with courtesy and tact to clients, attorneys, and other staff members.
This role operates in a professional office environment and may require more than 37.5 hours per week during peak periods. Evening or irregular hours may be required based on firm needs.
