Overview

Senior Sterile Processing Technologist is a position that supports the Sterile Processing Ops department, responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient processing of surgical instrumentation for patient care. This department maintains high standards of cleanliness, functionality, and compliance across sterile processing workflows. MD Anderson Cancer Center focuses on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Senior Sterile Processing Technologist contributes to safe surgical care by maintaining expertise across all sterile processing areas and ensures the timely availability of advanced instrumentation and equipment required for surgical procedures.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on sterile processing experience, technical knowledge of advanced surgical instrumentation, and relevant industry certification. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of two years of hospital-based sterile processing experience and formal certification in sterile processing practices.

Salary Range: Minimum $23.80 - Midpoint $29.81 - Maximum $35.82

Shift: 2:00pm - 10:30pm (weekend day required)

Responsibilities
  • Sterile Processing Operations
    • Perform decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of advanced instrumentation and equipment.
    • Identify and inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
    • Operate and troubleshoot sterile processing equipment.
    • Adhere to manufacturer guidelines and departmental standards.
    • Maintain safety compliance across all sterile processing activities.
  • Surgical Support
    • Prepare case carts with required instrument sets and supplies.
    • Deliver instrumentation to the operating room.
    • Stock and maintain par levels for operating room instrumentation.
    • Support emergency cart availability and preparedness.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Monitor and report equipment issues promptly.
    • Ensure accuracy in instrument assembly and set configuration.
    • Follow infection control, safety policies, and workflow standards.
    • Support consistent sterile processing documentation practices.
Education & Experience
  • Required:

    High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred:
    Completion of a Sterile Processing Program
  • Required:

    2 years hospital-based sterile processing experience or, with preferred education, no experience required
Licenses & Certifications
  • Required:

    CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (HSPA) Upon Hire
  • Required:

    CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CBSPD) Upon Hire
  • Required:

    CST - Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) Upon Hire

Minimum Salary: USD 49,500;
Midpoint Salary: USD 62,000;
Maximum Salary: USD 74,500. FLSA: non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.
