The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Pharmacist in Charge to embark on a rewarding healthcare career! Provides administrative, consultative and actual dispensing work in supervising the operations of a pharmacy in an inpatient/outpatient setting. Duties include providing clinical pharmacy services, pharmaceutical care, and medication processing to The Harris Center clinics, hospitals and pharmacies.
Dispenses medication to individuals of all ages with mental disabilities in accordance with physician’s orders, proper pharmacy practices and The Harris Center guidelines and procedures.
Supervises and manages the activities of the staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians assigned at the pharmacy supervised.
Participates and integrates with hospital committees, goals and programs demonstrating overall cohesion with other departments.
Provides both inpatient and outpatient services relative to pharmacy functions including medication orders and prescriptions. Devotes an adequate amount of time to administrative activities.
In addition to the on-site activity, the PIC or designee will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via home phone or cell phone. Frequently contacts the administrative complement of the hospital as well as physicians, nurses, patients and other professional personnel.
Leadership And Supervision Functions- Maintains personal knowledge of state and federal laws, drug knowledge and The Harris Center policies and procedures to supervise pharmacists and support staff ensuring:
Accurate preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, Adherence to state and federal pharmacy rules and regulations, and Compliance with The Harris Center policies and procedures. Anticipates the needs and issues of customers/suppliers to ensure effective departmental operations. - Provides leadership to the department through effective organization, direction of activities, and appropriate delegation of functions.
- Maintains appropriate controls of department functions to ensure smooth and effective operation.
- Actively assists pharmacy technicians in the discharge of routing duties as necessary.
- Exercises professional judgment imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients and health care professionals.
- Maintains the facilities of the department.
- Provides direction in accordance with issues identified with patient satisfaction.
- Participates in medication error review and Quality measures as needed, including root cause analysis and failure mode effect analysis.
- Establishes inventory control procedures that ensure adequate stock, preventive diversion, remove expired drugs and update pricing while maintaining the approved drug budget.
- Assures contract compliance with drug purchases.
- Effectively utilizes staffing resources, minimizing overtime and utilizing agency pool before contract staffing.
- Review of all data entry during the month to verify consumer’s plan, physician data, etc. is correct which enables pharmacy administration to complete month end financial reports.
- Responsible for the timely submission of invoices and/or other accounts payable documents.
- Provides accurate, efficient and appropriate pharmaceutical distribution services to consumers by properly interpreting drug orders, entering drug orders into the pharmacy computer system and dispensing appropriate medications in a timely manner.
- Attend staff meetings for pharmacy and clinic and post minutes in communication binder.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of payroll for his/her staff.
- Responsible for the timely annual evaluation of the staff he/she supervises.
- Performs all functions of a The Harris Center Pharmacist.
- Supports and embraces the PAP processes, policies and procedures.
- Establishes open lines of communication with staff, other healthcare providers, and consumers in a manner that exemplifies a customer service attitude.
- Implement and maintain a profile driven system for inpatient use via the automated dispensing system (PYXIS).
- Implement and maintain a pharmacy driven MAR for nursing.
- Assure best practices in an inpatient setting are utilized related to MAR, profile driven system, unit inspections.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EducationWhat Qualifications you need:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent.
- Licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of Texas.
- A minimum of two years retail experience and a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in either a retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
- Computer skills such as word processing and excel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Supervisory skills to include training, coaching and constructive discipline
