The Clinical Center for Targeted Therapy is MD Anderson's leading Phase I clinical trials program, offering patients access to innovative, first in human cancer treatments. The team evaluates new immunotherapies, chemo therapies, and targeted therapies designed to block the molecular drivers of cancer growth. The center also conducts select Phase II trials to advance the most promising therapies.

$43,000 minimum - $54,000 midpoint - $65,000 maximum

The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to act as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. Under general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, assists with administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

• Under the direction of the registered nurse, assists with patient care procedures.
• Monitors and records patient vital signs.
• Monitors and records patient weight.
• Positions patients as requested by nurse or by the patient.
• Cares for patients on isolation status.
• Obtains fingerstick glucose testing as requested.
• Documents patient data and care given in the electronic medical record.
• Patient Interaction.
• Greeting and arriving patients in the computer system.
• Interacting with patients in a manner appropriate for the age and life stage of the patient.
• Escorts patients, materials, specimens, and equipment to various clinic sections, nursing units or assigned rooms.
• Clinic duties.
• Maintains stocks of supplies as necessary.
• Stocks assigned rooms with designated supplies.
• Will clean equipment, according to prescribed maintenance schedules, or as needed. (glucometers, vital sign machines, etc.)
• Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required:

High school diploma/equivalent.

Preferred:
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

Required:

One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

Preferred:
One year of medical assistant experience; outpatient oncology experience is a plus.

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT).
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Health career Association (NHA).
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
