To help reduce or eliminate communication disorders that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive benefit from the district's education program.
Qualifications Education/Certification- Master's degree in communication disorders from an accredited college or university and pass a national exam in speech-language pathology
- Valid Texas license in speech-pathology
- Texas Education Agency certification in accordance with applicable statutes.
- Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions.
- Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions.
- Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Conduct Full Individual Evaluations as part of the multi-disciplinary evaluation team to identify students who may be eligible for speech and language services.
- Conduct re-evaluations of identified students in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans for students with speech impairments.
- Translate appraisal data into an instructional relevant speech and language program.
- Plan schedule, and implement all direct and/or indirect service as needed.
- Provide services in an inclusive setting and coordinate intervention with general education staff.
- Conduct and/or participate in ARD meetings as needed.
- Function as a consultant in speech and language to parents and staff as required.
- Assist in the intervention process for students who are suspected of having a speech impairment.
- Attend staffings of children served, as needed.
- Provide parent training in the area of speech and language, as needed.
- Take part in district inservice and public awareness presentations.
- Attend and participate in inservice opportunities designed to enhance the skills of the special education staff.
- Maintain service related records, progress notes, and six week reviews.
- Provide appropriate service coordination for children.
- Participate in MAC Time Studies, when selected.
- Monitor student's audit folders.
- Supervise licensed assistants in speech-language pathology, Clinical Fellowship Year interns, and students as needed.
- Serve as a team leader for other speech/language pathologists, as needed.
- Follow billing and reimbursement procedures for Medicaid.
- Other duties as assigned.
ASHA CCC/SLP's:
Supervise licensed assistants in speech-language pathology, clinical . Fellowship Year interns, and students as needed.
TEA Certified Speech Pathologist:
None
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions.
Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsRegular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned. Moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning with physical disabilities. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
