Advanced Practice Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant - Acute Care Services
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a key role within the Acute Care Services Team. This team supports complex procedural care for patients requiring rapid assessment and intervention. MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The APP delivers high-acuity clinical care, performs invasive bedside procedures, and supports interdisciplinary coordination across fast-paced emergency and acute care environments.
The Advanced Practice Provider is essential in ensuring safe, timely, and effective patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will bring at least three years of clinical experience in interventional radiology, emergency medicine, critical care, or a surgical setting, along with demonstrated competency in independent patient assessment, managing hemodynamic instability, and responding to emergent clinical deterioration. Preferred skills include suturing experience and, for nursing applicants, First Assist Certification.
The typical work schedule is 7:30am-6:00pm, four 10-hour rotating shifts, Monday-Sunday, with potential for late stay to complete procedures.

- Perform invasive bedside procedures including central line placement (internal jugular, subclavian, femoral), thoracentesis, paracentesis, portacath removal, and tunneled catheter removal
- Document all procedures in the medical record using appropriate forms
- Manage patients with hemodynamic instability and respond to rapid clinical deterioration
- Independently assess emergent conditions and initiate appropriate interventions
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and identify normal and abnormal findings
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans and continuously evaluate care outcomes
- Order routine diagnostic tests as appropriate and review radiographic, laboratory, and procedural reports
- Perform delegated medical functions under physician supervision in alignment with established protocols
- Provide patient and family education related to procedures, treatment, and follow-up
- Deliver in-service training for nursing personnel on protocol requirements
- Support education of new Advanced Practice Providers in procedural performance
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary staff
- Provide guidance to coworkers in documenting patient information and performing data entry
- Participate in team-based quality improvement initiatives
- Perform effectively in a fast-paced emergency care environment
- Adapt to shifting priorities and maintain agility in rapidly changing clinical conditions
- Work self-directed while collaborating closely with leadership and clinical teams
Education
- Required:
Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
