The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and procedure scheduler to schedule Gastroenterology outpatient procedures. The position requires patient education and navigation through the patient’s journey, including preparing patients for the procedure and scheduling the procedure with BCM & BSLMC EMR. The candidate will work closely with physicians and the procedure schedule. The candidate will work Monday through Friday, eight hours daily.
The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated and passionate about providing excellent customer service to outpatients. The role involves high-volume service with the additional complexity of managing scheduling and patient registration in a separate EPIC system.
- Schedules GI procedures in BCM and BSLMC EPIC, ensuring every referred patient has a procedure date scheduled.
- Contacts patients for instructions before procedures and notifies patient of date/time/arrival time.
- Requests additional information from referring physicians.
- Verifies insurance for new and established patients.
- Works on order work queue to select orders and schedule patients.
- Collaborates with MDs for any patient-specific instructions, including procedure locations and clearances.
- Performs cross-checks for procedural or scheduling conflicts to ensure exam accuracy.
- Acquires clinical notes as needed prior to exam.
- Maintains confidentiality of passwords/codes for all information systems and patient information, as observed by supervisor.
- Verifies and confirms patient identification and information, including precautions and other vital details on all documentation, as observed by supervisor.
- Communicates in an appropriate manner as outlined in the patient care manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Scheduling experience in a healthcare environment.
