Job Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Clinical Psychologist V. Under the general direction of designated supervisor, this position is responsible for psychological evaluations, including court-ordered evaluations and consultations for services as designated by the criminal/juvenile court system. Duties may include collaboration with individuals in the court as requested or other individuals designated by the criminal/juvenile justice system and clinical supervision of designated staff/interns.

Your role in Action
  • Supervises master’s level clinicians, practicum, and doctoral interns/students (APA-accredited doctoral internship program), licensed providers, including staffing cases, reviewing reports and notes, and addressing crises in both institutions or within the community.
  • Conducts psychological and forensic assessments for the juvenile court and serve as a clinical lead on assigned juvenile cases involved in the court system.
  • Facilitates didactic experiences for clinicians, including group supervision and training opportunities within the agency and the community.
  • Provides case consultation to doctoral level staff regarding clinical issues and provide clinical input in multidisciplinary case staffing.
  • Meets divisional productivity standards.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities.
  • Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulator bodies and performance contract documentation requirements.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent in clinical, counseling, developmental or behavioral psychology.

Experience:

  • At least 4 years’ experience with clinical/psychological assessments of individuals with mental illness.

Other Key

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Texas, or P.h.D.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of psychological assessment/juvenile forensic evaluations.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic criteria, specific clinical features and guidelines for formulating a diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of child development specific to severe or chronic disability of children attributable to intellectual impairment or mental illness.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, the ability to incorporate patient history, symptoms, environmental and related issues to formulate proper diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
  • Strong communications skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise and well‑constructed.
  • Effective time management and organization skills.
  • Able to execute standard word processing software on the computer.
