Job Summary and Qualifications

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the pharmacy clinical programs. This includes formulary management, policy and procedure development, and education across the healthcare spectrum. The Clinical Manager also assists in managing the pharmacy when the Pharmacy Director or designee is unavailable.

What you will do in this role:
  • Interpret orders and transcribe or verify them accurately and efficiently into the pharmacy computer system
  • Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals
  • Comply with facility policy, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners, suggesting appropriate, cost‑effective therapeutic alternatives as needed
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimize non‑formulary procurements, utilize therapeutic interchanges, and promote rational drug therapy selection
  • Support participation in daily multidisciplinary and bedside rounds (may need to attend)
  • Identify, design, and analyze drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy and determine action plans based on results
  • Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients
  • Develop, manage, and mentor pharmacy clinical programs such as drug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring, pain management, IV to PO, renal dosing, and other appropriate programs
  • Develop, manage, and mentor for the antimicrobial management program (AMP)
  • Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely
  • Mentor and educate, analyze interventions to ensure accurate documentation, and provide summary reports
  • Support and participate in the organization’s quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety program, including National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, and medication‑related initiatives
  • Design, analyze, and report adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and pharmacy quality initiatives; mentor others in these programs
  • Develop and actively participate in training and mentorship programs for pharmacists, pharmacy students, residents, technicians, nurses, and physicians, and assess participants in these programs
  • Develop and document staff competency on an ongoing basis, and create improvement plans when deficiencies are identified
  • Serve as primary preceptor for pharmacy students and/or residents in clinical pharmacy services
  • Design and manage programs and mentor students, residents, and other preceptors
  • Maintain professional competency sufficient to meet current and future needs of the facility
  • Develop and manage specialty pharmacy practice programs related to clinical pharmacy
