Clinical Studies Coordinator - Experimental Therapeutics

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a world-renowned academic cancer center dedicated to cancer patient care, research, education, and prevention. The Experimental Therapeutics department supports innovative clinical research studies that advance early detection, prevention, and treatment strategies through multidisciplinary collaboration with physicians, research teams, and clinical partners.

The Clinical Studies Coordinator serves an integral role in an ovarian cancer screening study led by Dr. Bast and conducted at Women's Hospital of Texas. The Clinical Studies Coordinator independently manages participant recruitment, enrollment, consent, education, blood collection, follow-up coordination, and protocol compliance activities. The Clinical Studies Coordinator functions as the primary study liaison, supporting participants through each phase of the research process while ensuring accurate data management and study operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical research coordination, participant recruitment and consent, patient education, and protocol management. Experience working independently in a clinical setting, collaborating with physicians, performing phlebotomy, explaining laboratory results and next steps to participants, and coordinating follow-up care is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, database management, and Microsoft Word and Excel skills are essential. Clinical research experience involving oncology, women's health, ovarian cancer screening, or longitudinal participant follow-up programs is preferred.

* This position is based onsite at The Woman's Hospital of Texas and requires working at that location daily, Monday through Friday, in a clinical practice setting supporting study participants, OB-GYN physicians, and research operations.*

Salary Range:
Minimum $57,500 | Midpoint $72,000 | Maximum $86,500

The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, days.

Patient/Participant Communication & Education
  • Serve as the OGA lead for recruiting, screening, enrolling, and consenting eligible participants for the Low Risk Trial (LRT)
  • Interview participants referred by physicians and other departments to determine study eligibility
  • Access and evaluate medical records, surgical records, and family history to assess study participation criteria
  • Explain study objectives, procedures, risks, benefits, and participation requirements to potential participants
  • Serve as the primary liaison for participants, family members, physicians, and study personnel
  • Discuss and explain normal and abnormal blood test results and recommended next steps
  • Educate participants on ovarian cancer screening processes, including CA 125 blood testing and ultrasound follow-up recommendations
  • Monitor participant compliance with study requirements and perform reminder calls to support retention
  • Evaluate and schedule follow-up appointments according to ROCA recommendations and physician overrides
  • Coordinate participant ultrasound appointments and physician follow-up visits when indicated
Clinical Research Coordination & Participant Management
  • Independently coordinate day-to-day study activities within a clinical practice setting at Women's Hospital of Texas
  • Manage participant enrollment and ongoing follow-up for a multi-site ovarian cancer screening study
  • Control strict eligibility requirements for all study participants at every study visit
  • Review participant compliance and remove participants from study participation when out of compliance
  • Develop patient care methodologies and participation criteria for study protocols
