Responsibilities include patient care activities of daily living within unit limits, performing EKGs, collecting lab specimens, conducting hourly rounding, and reporting observations to the licensed nurse and/or provider. The role promotes patient and family centered care, supports interprofessional collaboration, and contributes to quality and safety initiatives.

• Provides direct patient care under the direction of an RN.
• Documents comprehensive screenings, care administered, diagnostic measurements, allergies, medication lists, treatments, and procedures according to policy.
• Obtains vital signs, 12‑lead EKG, performs phlebotomy, ultrasound‑guided IV catheter insertion, CPR, splinting, specimen collection, immobilization, and vehicle extrication as required.
• Performs hourly rounds to ensure patient needs are met, reporting conditions and problems to the RN.
• Responds to call lights and follows through with patient needs.
• Participates in bedside shift handoff to improve patient satisfaction scores.

• Uses rapid assessment skills to identify patient severity, deterioration, and risk for adverse events.
• Communicates findings to the licensed nurse and/or provider.
• Recognizes abnormal ECGs, vital signs, and mental status and monitors high‑risk patients.
• Manages incoming patient information from EMS per unit protocols.
• Maintains patient privacy and safety.
• Reports near misses and input errors promptly to improve processes.
• Supports initiatives to prevent pressure injuries, falls, and hospital‑acquired infections.

• Uses resources efficiently and assists with patient and staffing needs across service lines.
• Manages time effectively, prioritizes daily tasks, and coordinates colleagues to meet unit demands.
• Maintains an orderly environment, assists with inventory, monitoring, and ordering of supplies and equipment.

• Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with continual development.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool equivalency, or partial/post‑secondary education).
• Completion of EMT‑A or EMT‑Paramedic program, or current enrollment in an EMT‑to‑Paramedic program with EMT‑Advanced classification.

• Six months of pre‑hospital experience or six months in a hospital setting as an EMT or Paramedic.

• LP – Licensed Paramedic (State Licensure)

• EMT‑P – Emergency Medical Technician‑Paramedic (State Certification)
• BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
