Position: MRI Tech (Per Diem)

Within diagnostic imaging services, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist supports advanced imaging operations that are critical to accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist works in Diagnostic Imaging Department and plays a direct role in patient care by performing specialized MRI procedures. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist collaborates with radiologists, clinicians, physicists, and care teams across UT MD Anderson to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality imaging services.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical proficiency in MRI imaging, hands‑on clinical experience in patient care, and appropriate licensure or certification aligned with MRI technology. This individual is skilled in patient safety, imaging protocols, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining accuracy and compliance with established standards.

Responsibilities Patient Care & Safety
  • Perform patient care activities including POCT, IV insertion, assessments, education and transportation.
  • Screen patients for implanted devices and manage imaging safety clearance processes.
  • Maintain strict control of MRI clinical zones and ensure adherence to MRI safety standards.
  • Recognize patient distress and initiate emergency response procedures as needed.
  • Administer contrast agents following the six rights of medication administration.
  • Apply age‑specific criteria and escalates critical findings to radiologists.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient documentation across all required systems.
  • Support infection control practices including aseptic technique and proper equipment handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of imaging and patient care areas.
Clinical Operations & Workflow
  • Coordinate imaging procedures with clinicians and radiology faculty.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve clinical questions.
  • Manage patient flow to minimize delays and improve on‑time starts.
  • Prepare imaging rooms and escort patients to reduce turnaround time.
  • Execute downtime procedures during system failures and report to supervisors.
  • Use communication tools effectively including whiteboards, paging systems and email.
  • Ensure timely image transfer to PACS and complete handoffs using SBAR.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance workflow and patient experience.
  • Document and elevate incidents or patient concerns within required timelines.
  • Engage in ongoing training and departmental meetings.
Technical Imaging Expertise
  • Perform routine and advanced MRI procedures with high technical proficiency.
  • Ensure correct imaging parameters, positioning and anatomical accuracy.
