WhatYou Will Do In This Role
- Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
- Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by "pulling" the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
- Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications.
- Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology in order to prepare and assist in surgical/endo procedures.
- Maintains a safe sterile field by: a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a "timeout" with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
- Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical/ endo procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient.
- Understands the principles of and is able to competently assist a physician during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
- Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow through until problems are addressed or corrected.
- Alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
- Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
- Participates in department's process improvement activities.
* Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
* Certification in Surgical Technology
* Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
* 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred
