TAG Med Staffing is hiring a Surgical Coordinator (Temporary) in Houston, TX for our client. This potential temp-to-perm opportunity supports a busy specialty medical practice by coordinating surgical scheduling, patient communication, insurance authorization, and pre-operative requirements. The Surgical Coordinator will work closely with physicians, patients, hospitals, and insurance carriers to ensure procedures are scheduled accurately and patients are fully prepared for surgery.
The ideal candidate has medical office experience, knowledge of health insurance processes, and strong scheduling, communication, and follow-up skills.
Responsibilities as the Surgical Coordinator:
- Surgical Scheduling: Coordinate surgical procedures and appointments while ensuring accurate scheduling and timely communication with patients, providers, and healthcare facilities.
- Pre-Operative Coordination: Manage pre-operative requirements, including documentation, testing, instructions, and other necessary preparations for scheduled procedures.
- Patient Support: Educate patients on surgical scheduling, pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and next steps throughout the procedure process.
- Insurance & Authorizations: Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and patient responsibility while obtaining required prior authorizations and precertifications.
- Clinical Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate surgical documentation, patient records, and required procedure-related materials.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with physicians, clinical teams, healthcare facilities, and insurance carriers to resolve scheduling, documentation, and authorization issues.
Qualifications for the Surgical Coordinator:
- Experience: Medical office or healthcare administration experience is required, with surgical scheduling or procedure coordination experience strongly preferred.
- Insurance Knowledge: Experience with insurance verification, benefits, prior authorizations, and precertification processes is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of surgical scheduling, pre-operative requirements, patient coordination, and medical office workflows is preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Experience with electronic health record or practice management systems is required. - Skills & Attributes: Strong organizational, communication, patient service, and time management skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
