Position Summary

Southend Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist – Non-Sterile Compounding to provide clinical oversight, prescription verification, and operational support for our expanding non-sterile compounding pharmacy. This role combines clinical pharmacy expertise with hands-on knowledge of non-sterile compounding to ensure the safe, accurate, and compliant preparation of customized medications.

The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for reviewing and verifying prescriptions, evaluating formulation appropriateness, overseeing non-sterile compounding activities, ensuring compliance with USP , state and federal regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance. This position serves as a clinical resource for providers, pharmacy technicians, and internal departments while supporting innovation in personalized medicine and continuous process improvement.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, effectively managing concurrent provider and patient inquiries while navigating multiple systems, including dual monitors and Life File, with exceptional accuracy and efficiency. This role also requires outstanding customer service and de‑escalation skills, with the ability to professionally resolve complex or sensitive situations, uphold company policies, and deliver a positive experience that reflects Southend Pharmacy's commitment to clinical excellence and patient‑centered care.

Clinical

& Patient Care
  • Review, interpret, and verify prescriptions for compounded non-sterile medications to ensure clinical appropriateness, dosing accuracy, and patient safety.
  • Evaluate patient-specific information to support individualized therapeutic recommendations when appropriate.
  • Provide clinical consultation regarding formulation selection, dosage forms, ingredient compatibility, stability, and beyond-use dating (BUD).
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare providers regarding customized compounded therapies.
  • Answer clinical questions regarding compounded medications, administration, storage, and therapeutic alternatives.
  • Promote safe medication practices and provide pharmaceutical expertise across the organization.
  • Oversee and support daily non-sterile compounding operations in accordance with USP standards.
  • Verify calculations, formulations, ingredient selection, weighing, measuring, mixing, packaging, and labeling of compounded medications.
  • Perform final pharmacist verification prior to dispensing.
  • Ensure adherence to Master Formulation Records (MFRs), Compounding Records, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with the development, validation, and implementation of new compounded formulations, dosage forms, and pharmacy processes.
  • Support production of capsules, creams, gels, ointments, troches, suspensions, oral liquids, powders, and other customized dosage forms.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations, including USP , FDA guidance applicable to 503A compounding pharmacies, DEA requirements, and Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate pharmacy documentation, including:
    • Master Formulation Records (MFRs)
    • Compounding Records
    • Batch Documentation
    • Equipment Cleaning Logs
    • Quality Assurance Documentation
    • Ingredient and Lot Traceability Records
  • Participate in internal audits, regulatory inspections, and quality reviews.
