Job Summary

The MFM Sonographer Educator II is a sonographer who plays a vital role in maternal-fetal medicine by performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures. This position requires an intermediate knowledge base, technical skills, and understanding of maternal-fetal medicine ultrasound. Operating under physician supervision, the MFM Sonographer Educator II provides essential clinical information for patient diagnosis and treatment, while also ensuring the highest standards of care.

In addition to direct patient care, this role is responsible for mentoring, training, and guiding ultrasound learners by developing and implementing best practices. The MFM Sonographer Educator II actively contributes to quality improvement and patient experience initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Specialized Training/Licensure:

  • a. Associates Degree (graduate of an accredited medical sonography program)
  • b. Basic Life Support from approved American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Program
  • c. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography RDMS in OBGYN specialty
  • d. Cervical length certification (Preferred)

Work Experience:

  • Two (2) Years of Experience in MFM ultrasound scanning.

  • Performs MFM ultrasound studies including intermediate techniques (3D/4D, neurosonology) and reports findings with minimal supervision by APS Supervisor or Manager.
  • Follows perinatal guidelines, adheres to departmental protocols, and complies with AIUM standards.
  • Functions as a buddy and educator, teaching sonographer students, medical students, and residents, and accurately documenting competencies.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume, emergencies, staffing, location, scheduling and coverage.
  • Engages in research projects, quality improvement programs, and patient experience initiatives.
  • Maintains professional development, including meeting ARDMS continuing education requirements and consistently achieving QA scores of 80% or greater.
