The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has a job opening for a Research Assistant! This individual will work closely with the PI, the Director of the Psychological Intervention and Research Laboratory for Mood Spectrum Disorders, and the Co-Director of the UT Brain Collection.

The Research Assistant will work on studies in several areas, but their primary responsibility will be assisting the PI with the FDA and IRB-approved open-label psychedelic trial and leading the platform of systematic reviews around psychedelics. Furthermore, depending on background and experience, the person will also be involved in other tasks such as analyzing data, writing manuscript, and conducting psychological autopsies.

General knowledge of psychopathology and abnormal psychology, with specific knowledge of mood disorders, and a good understanding of clinical research designs strongly preferred. Experience with research (student researcher/volunteer), clinically relevant and psychosocial interviews (e.g., SCID, YMRS,MADRS, Diamond), and programs such as SPSS, Qualtrics/Question Pro, RedCAP, EXCEL, ENDNOTE preferred.

Position Summary

Under general direction of senior research staff, the Research Assistant conducts activities to support research projects and exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Under general supervision, research activities, under general direction, according to research. Research activities may include some or all of the following: patient recruiting and screening, and setting up and doing both face-to-face and online data collections traditional laboratory experiments and activities, and ideally data analyses. Processes initial research protocols, continuing reviews of protocols and their amendments as well as other reports.
  • Collects, organize and prepares research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed
  • Maintains clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by senior research staff.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for the research laboratory. Must maintain compliance with required training. May participate in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
  • As needed, may coordinate the work of other research staff to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality results.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
