Job Summary And Qualifications

Is responsible for the daily operations of the Histology laboratory, to include scheduling and direct supervision of all Histology laboratory personnel. Serves as a liaison of the Histology department to provide assistance and address concerns and issues of the medical staff including but not limited to surgery department. Performs clinical laboratory testing in all/or designated areas. Investigates and resolves problems/complaints from physicians, patients and their families, nursing, and other hospital personnel.

Insures that laboratory policies and procedures are being followed by laboratory employees. Responsible for follow up, reviewing, and reporting all quality assurance issues including proficiency testing and departmental quality control. Provides counseling and instruction to employees as designated by the Laboratory Director and or designee. Communicates to Laboratory Director and or designee all issues concerning the functions of the Histology laboratory, and works closely with the Laboratory management team to resolve such issues.

Assist with preparation of bi-annual CAP inspections. Completes technical or special projects as assigned. Must be capable of making management decisions in the designated area of responsibility. Responsible for reviewing daily reports as assigned. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

He/she will perform tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Director and or designee within his/her scope of training.

  • Assists with the development of department specific policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations.
  • Participates in employee interviewing, hiring and termination processes.
  • Provides input, and participates in the probationary and annual evaluation of departmental staff.
  • Collaborates with Director to assure adequate staffing levels for shift.
Job Summary And Qualifications

The Histology Tech is responsible for processing surgical specimens, body fluids and secretions for microscopic examination and with excellent customer service skills, assists pathologist in gross examination of specimens in a safe manner.
