Pharmacist - Specialty

The Ideal candidate is a licensed pharmacist with a Pharm.

D. or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college. They demonstrate strong clinical knowledge and a commitment to patient-centered care in an ambulatory oncology setting. While hospital pharmacy experience (6 months or more) is preferred, the candidate should excel in accuracy, communication, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Working Hours:

The working hours are 9:30am-6pm Mon-Fri

The MD Anderson Specialty Pharmacy provides integrated, patient-centered care for individuals receiving specialty therapies. Working closely with multidisciplinary care teams, the pharmacy supports medication access, clinical monitoring, patient education, adherence management, and ongoing therapy optimization to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their cancer treatment journey.

• Maintain professional and appropriate communication, including language, tone, and volume, when interacting with patients, family members, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
• Communicate promptly with providers regarding prescription changes, patient concerns, medication-related issues, or other clinical needs as appropriate.

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including:
  • Review and maintenance of an updated home medication list.
  • Assessment of medication adherence.
  • Evaluation of patient quality of life and therapy outcomes.
• Assess the appropriateness of specialty medications and monitor patients throughout therapy to support achievement of desired clinical outcomes.
• Provide specialty medication counseling and education, including:
  • Medication administration.
  • Expected therapeutic outcomes.
  • Potential adverse effects and their management.
• Participate in specialty clinical consultations and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient care.

• Accurately document current and relevant patient information related to specialty medication therapy within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Complete and maintain initial patient assessments and ongoing reassessments in compliance with organizational policies and accreditation standards, including URAC requirements.
• Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all patient interactions, including but not limited to:
  • Telephone communications
  • Emails
  • In-person pharmacy visits
  • Clinical consultations
• Ensure all documentation is timely, complete, and compliant with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
