Refugee Resettlement assists in helping create a home-away-from-home, we assist government-approved refugees in becoming self-sufficient through cultural orientation, job development, family reunification and resettlement.
The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for assessing students and families who are eligible for the Refugee School Impact program and connecting them to available resources. The Behavioral Health Specialist will work closely with the education team to provide mental health training to students, parents, and teachers and provide referrals and follow-up for mental health services, as needed. The successful candidate will have a passion for working with refugee students, have strong connections with mental health providers in the Houston community, and display initiative.
PRINCIPALDUTIES
- Provide mental health trainings to participants enrolled in the Refugee School Impact program.
- Develop and implement professional development trainings for community partners on refugee mental health.
- Work closely with the education team to connect with refugee students who display a need for mental health care. Make appropriate referrals for mental health services and follow-up to ensure student is connected with mental health services
- Create resource packets for schools on topic of mental health
- Coordinate crisis intervention meetings with school counselor, teachers, parents for students who are in crisis at school
- Lead social-emotional learning activities for RSI program and evaluate efficacy of social-emotional learning interventions
- Develop social-emotional curriculum to be delivered to students in after-school programs
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Bachelor in Social Work or related field with Community Health Worker background
- One (1) year of experience working in the field of mental health
- Demonstrate organizational and planning skills.
- Exhibit friendliness and courtesy when interacting with visitors.
- Demonstrate success in dealing with a variety of people.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Demonstrate the ability to operate standard office equipment (phone system, copier, fax,etc.).
