   articipates in the daily operations of an Electron Microscopy laboratory, preparing and processing patient biopsy specimens for ultra structural pathology examinations. Performs tissue embedding, sectioning, quality control, reagent preparation, equipment maintenance,record management,andbasictroubleshooting.

Position Summary:

Participates in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory with regard to Electron Microscopy and provides quality preparation of diagnostic biopsies for clinical ultra structural pathology examination according to departmental procedures utilizing a specialized skill set and knowledge. Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services ensuring timely and high-quality results rendering ultra structural pathological diagnosis.

Position

Key Accountabilities:

Processes and embeds patient biopsies received for ultra structural pathology examination.

Performs ultramicrotomy to prepare semi-thin sections on a wide range of human tissue specimens: renal, muscle, nerve, heart, fat pads, and skin, etc.

Prepares ultra-thin sections for Electron Microscopy screening by laboratory staff.

Performs daily QC on all patient biopsy slides and grids.

Complies with all departmental SOPs and adheres to all rules and protocols.

Utilizing SOP, prepares and performs QC of various solutions and reagents so that laboratory is well-stocked at all times ensuring quality ultra structural pathology testing.

Maintains a secure proper filing system for all logs, records, digital images, semi-thins, ultra-thins and specimen blocks.

Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, and performs scheduled equipment and instrument calibration/certifications, as required. Performs basic troubleshooting if instrument failures. Helps maintain gross tissue storage area and assists in discarding tissue per established policy.

Performs supportive duties, providing direction to a wide range of clinical staff to ensure efficient, high-quality test results: instructs physicians and nurses in procedures for proper specimen collection and correct handling of request forms.

Identifies problems that may adversely affect performance of ultra structural results and immediately notifies management team.
