Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Pharmacy assists the System Director of Pharmacy with ensuring that the pharmacy provides superior services, meets or exceeds all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements, and follows all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the facility.

What You Will Do:

Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols:
  • Assist the System Director of Pharmacy in developing, enforcing, and maintaining policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe drug therapy.
  • Assist with ensuring order fills are consistent with the state-approved medication formulary.
  • Assist in the supervision of drug storage and preparation areas throughout the health system.
  • Assist in providing for the educational needs of healthcare professionals, patients, and their families in the health system.
  • Assist in ensuring the maintenance and integrity of an adequate drug supply and assist in the establishment of procurement and purchasing specifications for drugs, chemicals, and biologicals.
  • Assist in ensuring strict control and accountability for drugs dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock.
  • Assist in the adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
  • Perform other supervisory duties as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the pharmacy department:
  • Supervise pharmacy personnel as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assists in the recruitment, promotion, discipline, and termination of pharmacy staff as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of job descriptions and performance standards consistent with health system standards and as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assist in the preparation of work schedules and monitor pharmacy workload as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assist in providing for the educational and training needs of the pharmacy staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of pharmacy budgets as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assist in reviewing monthly financial statistics and assists in planning monthly expenditures within budget guidelines.
  • Assist in ensuring the preparation and submission of patient charges (including Medicare Part D) and financial reports to health system administration and Complete Rx, Ltd. in accordance with policy.
  • Administer reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data as assigned by the System Director of Pharmacy.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with health system policies and procedures governing pharmacy services.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and accreditation agency guidelines.
