Payroll Specialist

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Payroll Specialist (Paylocity Expert) for a nonprofit organization.

This is an onsite, temp-to-hire opportunity in Houston, TX, supporting payroll operations.

• The Payroll Specialist will step in immediately to manage end-to-end payroll operations using Paylocity for a multi-payroll environment. This role requires a confident, hands-on payroll professional who can independently own the platform with minimal ramp-up. The priority is continuity, accuracy, and calm execution in a fast-moving situation.

• Own full-cycle payroll processing for 100+ employees across mixed pay schedules
• Manage payroll execution entirely within Paylocity
  , including timekeeping and reporting
• Ensure accurate payroll calculations, deductions, and compliance
• Support benefits and retirement integrations, including 403(b) contributions
• Partner closely with leadership to ensure seamless payroll continuity

• Deep, hands-on Paylocity expertise (full platform ownership required)
• Experience managing complex payroll environments with mixed pay cycles
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, benefits, and retirement integrations
• Advanced Excel skills and high attention to detail
• Proven ability to step into urgent situations with minimal training

, and flexibility for candidates bringing exceptional Paylocity expertise. Benefits and hybrid flexibility are available upon permanent conversion.
