Our client, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental conservation, is hiring a Human Resources Manager to serve as both a strategic partner and hands‑on leader, responsible for the overall direction and management of their human resources function across national and state operations. This role oversees all aspects of HR, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, performance management, and training.
Partnering closely with senior leadership, this Manager builds trusted relationships across both national and state teams, and fosters a culture of support, accountability, and employee development ensuring the organization remains compliant, people centered and operationally strong.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, training, and separations.
- Develop, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Manage employee separations, including termination procedures, separation documentation, and release agreements.
- Maintain accurate employee records and oversee leaves of absence and disability claims.
- Serve as a primary resource for employee questions, concerns, and day-to-day HR needs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws, including EEOC, FLSA, and anti-discrimination regulations.
- Manage workers’ compensation, employment, and unemployment claims.
- Partner with legal counsel on employee relations matters and risk mitigation.
- Assist with HR-related audits and organizational compliance initiatives.
- Oversee semi‑monthly payroll processing for national and state chapters.
- Administer payroll changes, benefits deductions, and 401(k) deferrals, loans, and plan updates.
- Manage employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, and HSA plans, ensuring effective vendor coordination and cost control.
- Oversee 401(k) retirement plan, including coordination of required filings such as Form 5500 and ACA reporting.
- Support budgeting, cost control, and compensation analysis related to payroll and benefits programs.
- Oversee employee review and evaluation processes to support consistent performance management.
- Research, recommend, and implement employee training and development programs as needed to enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Support workforce planning and compensation discussions with supervisors and state leadership.
- 5+ years of progressive human resources experience
- Strong knowledge of employment law, payroll, benefits, and HR operations
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional internal customer service
- Experience in a nonprofit or mission‑driven organization is a plus
