Summary

The HR Generalist serves as the administrator for several critical human resources functions and workforce management, which may include, but not be limited to, recruiting and onboarding, employee/labor relations, workers’ compensation, compensation, annual harassment policy training, employee engagement, and employee records. The role facilitates and communicates organizational policies and programs and ensures labor law and regulatory compliance. It provides internal support and partnership to business lines to deliver required human resources, may evaluate, select, and oversee vendors that provide supplemental HR processes and services, and coordinates with HR support staff to process and maintain employment, attendance, and other records.

In addition to HR–related functions, this role will also have responsibilities related to site safety functions.

This exempt role reports to the Director of HR in Danville, Illinois, but is an onsite role in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Achieves staffing objectives by assisting with the recruitment and evaluation of job candidates; advising managers; and managing relocations.
  • Establishes recruiting requirements by studying organization plans and objectives and meeting with managers to discuss needs.
  • Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites; providing organization information, opportunities, and benefits; making presentations; and maintaining rapport.
  • Determines applicant requirements by studying job descriptions and qualifications.
  • Attracts applicants by placing job advertisements, using newsgroups and job boards.
  • Determines applicant qualifications by conducting initial interviews, analyzing responses, verifying references, and comparing qualifications to job requirements.
  • Arranges management interviews by coordinating schedules; arranging travel, lodging, and meals; escorting applicant to interviews; and arranging community tours.
  • Evaluates applicants by discussing job requirements and applicant qualifications with managers and interviewing applicants on a consistent set of qualifications.
  • Improves organization attractiveness by recommending new policies and practices and emphasizing benefits and perks.
  • Conducts onboarding activities for all Houston new hires in coordination with the Onboarding Coordinator in Danville.
  • Assists and facilitates benefits and leave‑of‑absence related activities, in coordination with the Benefits Administrator in Danville.
  • Responsible for routine workforce communication using email, posters, and internal TV postings.
  • Facilitates the Annual Employee Engagement Survey process and associated activities.
  • Submits claim information for work‑related injuries as well as coordinates care at local occupational medicine facilities as necessary.
  • Assists with Employee Relations by drafting disciplinary memos, termination letters, conducting investigations as needed, and administering terminations in partnership with management and the HR Director.
  • Updates and maintains employee records within HRIS and the electronic file system.
  • Co‑leads the Employee Activities Committee, leading meetings, coordinating events, and ensuring activities stay within the designated budget for the year.
  • Assists with coordination and facilitation of annual anti‑harassment policy training.
  • Assists local team with completion of any HR forms required from potential customers.
  • Works closely with the Danville EHS Coordinator, operations, management, and employees to promote a strong safety culture, reduce risk, and support continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental performance.
  • Assists in implementing and maintaining EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Tracks and supports closure of corrective actions for incidents, near‑misses, and hazards reported.
  • Performs and follows up on accident/incident investigations.
  • Maintains the SDS and monitors usage of materials.
