Administers human resources policies and programs in the following functional areas: recruiting and staffing, diversity, employee relations, performance appraisals, compensation, benefits, affirmative action plans, unemployment and other similar areas. Responds to EEOC charges and claims and ensures employee relations legal requirements are met to minimize exposure and liability. Serves as a business partner to management and participates in the development and implementation of human resource plans to support business objectives.

Consults with management and employees on human resources related issues and policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Encourages and builds positive relationships and communicates effectively with all internal clients, co-workers and outside vendors.
  • Conducts themselves at all times as the public image of the company in accordance with Crane’s Code of Conduct.
  • Is highly visible and is the employee’s first point of contact for HR‑related queries and concerns.
  • Proactively identifies and communicates employee issues that impact the client group’s ability to meet business objectives.
  • Responsible for the identification, diagnosis, and resolution of HR related problems or situations calling on appropriate resources to resolve issues. Continuously improves Crane’s image as an attractive place to work.
  • Assists with line managers in developing skills to manage human resources more effectively through modeling, coaching, instruction and training.
  • Provides on‑going feedback to Regional HR Manager to assist in policy creation.
  • Performs recruitment activities such as the development of advertisements, screening of candidates and conducting interviews for select positions. Maintains records of the same.
  • Monitors unemployment claims and assists with line managers with appeals.
  • Ensures local compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.
  • Rolls out all Crane‑wide HR programs such as:
    Performance Appraisals, Reward and Recognition, Wellness Initiatives, Compliance Training, Annual Open Enrollment, Service Award Program, Employee Satisfaction Survey, Random Drug Screening and other similar programs.
  • Assists in formulation of manpower objectives, staffing plans, and individual, team and organization development plans. Supports employment and diversity programs and objectives.
  • Assists with line managers with performance appraisals; tracks due dates for the region and reports on outstanding performance appraisals by manager.
  • Conducts/maintains exit interview database.
  • Facilitates collaborative problem‑solving strategies to resolve employee relations issues through effective communication with all levels of employees.
  • Ensures proper and consistent salary administration through analysis of salary increases. Reports increase that appear to be outside of established guidelines and any possible wage and hour compliance issues.
  • Create & maintain updated human resources manual and employee handbooks as directed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work in a confidential manner when dealing with sensitive and confidential information and documents.
  • Ability to be able to be flexible, change tasks, adjust and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong command of labor laws in California required.
  • Ability to generate HR‑related presentations and facilitate in front of small and large groups.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • 6+ years overall Human Resources experience required.
  • 5+ years Human Resources experience in Warehouse.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Minimum of 4 years HR Generalist experience with thorough knowledge of all Federal and State laws.
  • Working knowledge of provincial, territorial, and federal employment regulations across Canada strongly preferred.
  • Requires a proven track record of HR experience at a generalist level.
  • Requires a proven track record of relationship building with both internal and external clients.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification is preferred.
