HR Generalist / Talent Management, Recruiter / Talent Acquisition, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
CM Biomass is growing its U.S. HR team and is looking for an HR Generalist to take ownership of payroll processing and day-to-day employee relations across our manufacturing sites.
In this role, you'll be the primary point of contact for site-based employees — processing payroll accurately and on time, supporting employees directly at our plants, and helping resolve issues on the ground. You'll partner closely with our Corporate HR to cover all traditional HR functions, and help implement HR policies and best practices across the organization.
What you will be responsible for:- Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time across all U.S. sites
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for site (plant) employees, building trusted, on-the-ground relationships
- Address employee relations matters at the sites, including investigations and disciplinary actions, escalating complex matters as needed
- Administer leaves of absence (FMLA, workers' compensation, state leave) and coordinate related pay with payroll
- Process wage garnishments, unemployment claims, and other payroll-related compliance items
- Maintain time and attendance / timekeeping records for hourly site employees
- Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding for site-based employees
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in the HRIS for site personnel
- Support benefits enrollment and administration for site employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws at the site level
- Conduct exit interviews and manage offboarding for site employees
- Travel to Pellet Mill sites (up to 50%) to provide in-person HR and payroll support
- Partner with the Corporate HR Generalist and site leadership to implement HR policies, programs, and best practices across the organization
- Ad hoc projects
- Payroll (weekly and monthly) is processed accurately and on schedule across all sites
- Trusted, visible relationships established with employees and leadership at each plant
- Employee relations matters at the sites are addressed promptly and fairly
- Leave, garnishment, and unemployment claim processes are running smoothly and compliantly
- Strong working partnership with the Corporate HR Generalist, US Corporate Management and HQ Human Resources, with policies and best practices being rolled out consistently
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of HR and payroll experience, ideally in a multi-site or manufacturing environment
- Strong hands‑on payroll processing experience (weekly and monthly cycles)
- Comfortable working directly with hourly, plant-based employees
- Thorough knowledge of employment laws and wage & hour regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with HRIS and payroll systems
- Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus
- Valid driver's license
