POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the Museum’s human resources functions and supporting a positive, compliant, and effective workplace. This position provides guidance and support to employees, supervisors, and leadership in areas including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits, compliance, training, and employee development.
The HR Manager serves as a resource to leadership and staff and works collaboratively with third-party HR consultants and other partners to ensure effective HR policies, practices, and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead and manage the Museum’s human resources functions.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding.
- Maintain and administer HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Manage employee benefits, leave administration, workers’ compensation, and unemployment claims.
- Advise and support supervisors and leadership on employee relations, performance, and disciplinary matters.
- Coordinate the annual performance review process and support employee development.
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records and HRIS systems.
- Support training and leadership development for supervisors and staff.
- Partner with leadership to support employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture.
- Oversee compensation benchmarking and salary administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible human resources experience.
- Experience managing or overseeing multiple areas of human resources, including employee relations, recruitment, benefits, performance management, and employment compliance.
- Experience supporting supervisors and managers with employee relations and performance issues strongly preferred.
- SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, PHR, SPHR, or other relevant HR certification preferred.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization preferred.
- Strong knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and employment law.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong judgment and ability to approach employee relations matters objectively and professionally.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure during difficult or sensitive situations.
- Accountability and integrity.
This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work at a computer, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 15 pounds may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position operates primarily in a professional office and museum environment. Work is typically performed indoors and involves regular interaction with staff, visitors, volunteers, and external partners. The role may occasionally require attendance at events, programs, or meetings outside of normal business hours. The work environment is generally quiet to moderately busy, with periods of increased activity during peak programming or special events.
