The Opportunity

A nuclear energy organization is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support and evolve the enterprise network infrastructure that underpins safety-critical, highly regulated operations.

This role serves as a senior technical leader within IT Operations, responsible for ensuring the organization’s communications infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and scalable in support of mission-critical programs.

The Role

The Senior Network Engineer will act as a senior technical resource across all aspects of network design, implementation, and support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering and supporting firewalls, switches, routers, wireless controllers, and access points
  • Managing and maintaining LAN, WAN, and wireless networks to ensure availability, performance, and security
  • Supporting and administering VoIP phone systems and networks
  • Serving as the primary technical interface with network vendors and service providers
  • Leading network-related IT projects from concept through delivery
  • Planning and coordinating network maintenance windows and upgrades
  • Conducting network inventories, configuration audits, and maintaining technical documentation
  • Defining, implementing, and improving network processes, standards, and procedures
  • Evaluating new and emerging network technologies and making recommendations aligned with business and regulatory needs
  • Participating in on-call rotations and providing remote support as required
  • Supporting quality assurance, safety culture, and regulatory compliance obligations

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in enterprise network design and support
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • LAN, WAN, and wireless networking
  • VoIP systems and QoS/CoS
  • Core networking protocols (BGP, MPLS, VPN, OSPF, TCP/IP, STP)
  • VPN technologies (site-to-site, IPsec, client-based VPNs)
  • Authentication and access control (802.1x, NAC, Clear Pass, Cisco ISE, or equivalent)
  • Enterprise network infrastructure including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Experience working with external service providers and vendors
  • Proven ability to produce clear and accurate technical documentation
Preferred:
  • Experience supporting nuclear, advanced nuclear, or other safety-critical regulated environments
  • Familiarity with enterprise-grade firewall and switching platforms
  • Industry certifications (Cisco, Aruba, or similar)
  • Exposure to nuclear quality assurance frameworks and regulated compliance environments
  • Must meet federal compliance requirements
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone, in person, and digital platforms
  • Ability to perform standard office and IT-related physical tasks
  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally as required
