Position Overview

The Technology Infrastructure section of the Houston Airport System (HAS) is a service support organization responsible for augmenting the strategic capital program planning, and the design of construction with respect to technology infrastructure initiatives. It documents and manages all telecommunication infrastructure assets to ensure their integrity and facilitates all forms of communication traffic. It also supports and maintains all HAS networks, including the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Local Area Network (LAN).

The Senior IT Professional, part of the Technology Infrastructure Division, provides network support services, administers, monitors and maintains 665+ Cisco network switches, firewalls and monitoring tools, both wired and Aruba wireless across the three airports. The role delivers 24/7 network support to ensure network access for the Houston Airport System and supports a range of services such as CCTV Security Cameras, Badge Access System, Flight Information Display (FIDS), Perimeter Intrusion System, IP Phones with PBX, IP PA Mics, Fire Alarm System, HVAC Monitoring, and various internet services including Aruba Wireless solutions.

Security tools include VPN via Cisco FPR‑3100 using RSA tokens, Cisco FPR‑3100 and Cisco Firepower firewalls, Palo Alto firewall and Fire Eye appliance. Network device management tools such as Solar Winds Fault Alerting, Performance Monitor, and Configuration Manager are also employed. The position supports redundant, load‑balanced internet connections that provide connectivity for the entire Houston Airport System.

Technical Expert: Has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized infrastructure discipline. Typically participates in industry/technical user groups. Proactively resolves highly complex technology problems by providing expert technical advice, serving as the highest level of escalation internally, guiding technical support and delivering creative solutions to business needs.

Operations & Maintenance: Oversees a variety of highly complex analytical and technical assignments; provides subject matter expertise and advice for assigned technology and infrastructure systems. Plans, manages, and implements infrastructure projects and upgrades, designs and documents processes, procedures, and standards. Ensures effectiveness of infrastructure through preventive maintenance, performance monitoring, problem diagnosis, collaboration with external vendors and COH departments, and supports backups for various technologies and business units.

Strategy: Understands how technology infrastructure systems support business objectives. Drives innovation and creative solutions by providing value propositions, influences strategy, acts as a technical thought leader, implements best practices, and uses knowledge of internal and external technology challenges to drive business transformation. Addresses risks, limitations, and vulnerabilities while influencing direction for server, cloud, storage, and other infrastructures.

Team Effort: Contributes to the Information Technology team by accomplishing specific goals and performing related responsibilities. Provides coaching and mentoring to other Server Team administrators and Desktop leads when appropriate. Demonstrates willingness to assist the organization, offers assistance outside the normal scope, and remains available when needed.

Working Conditions: Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less‑than‑optimal temperature and air conditions. May involve modestly unpleasant situations such as exposure to office chemicals or extensive use of a video display terminal. Occasionally louder noise in a data‑center setting. May require lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally and occasional work in an outdoor environment.
