Job Overview
Boys Town is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to design, implement, and support our secure, high-performing network infrastructure. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing enterprise network systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Design and install physical equipment, including access points, switches, routers, firewalls, and network appliance hardware, to support complex networks utilized by all Boys Town business units.
- Work in data centers, wire closets, and equipment rooms to build rack layouts, set equipment placements, provide cable management, and uplinks to other equipment.
- Troubleshoot, implement, and problem‑solve issues in wired and wireless network equipment, network infrastructure, and internet connections.
- Diagnose and repair computer network systems, monitor and control network activity using industry standard hardware and software tools.
- Maintain documentation of all installed and supported systems, including network diagrams for buildings, systems, infrastructure, computers, network fiber, and copper distribution systems.
- Coordinate activities with data service providers regarding network circuits and provider equipment.
- Manage projects, validate project requirements, define scope, and develop plans and schedules to ensure objectives are achieved.
- Travel to various Boys Town locations as needed.
- Intermediate level knowledge of IP internetworking, LAN switching, WAN circuits, dynamic IP routing protocols, firewalls, virtualization technologies, and interfacing with carriers to manage circuit delivery.
- Routing protocols: EIGRP, BGP, OSPF;
Firewalls:
Palo Alto;
Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (both Network Centric and Application Centric);
Cisco DNA Center;
Cisco ISE. - Experience discovering ports and protocols used by applications to build security policies, using automation, and improving user experience.
- Knowledge of configuring and patching switches, firewalls, and routers.
- Ability to demonstrate networking fundamentals, provide guidance to other network operations members, and solve problems creatively.
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- On‑call support (continuously or rotationally) to provide required assistance.
- Ability to provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) for travel requirements.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in information technology, computer networking, or a related area.
- Experience with wired and wireless systems.
- Cisco CCNA certification or other Network or Security related certifications.

Physical Requirements , Equipment Usage, Work EnvironmentPosition may require moderate physical activity including pulling and running cable; handling average weight objects 20 lbs to 50 lbs on occasion; standing, walking, kneeling, or working at a keyboard, workstation, or desk. Requires agility to work in crawl spaces and on ladders. Work is typically in a normal office administrative or computer environment involving minimal exposure to physical risks, but may also spend time working in small, confined spaces or at heights of ten feet or greater with exposure to dust, noise, electrical systems, and excessively hot or cold temperatures.
