Total Energies Americas Exploration Hub, Technical Excellence, one of the leading teams in the application of AI to Exploration data, is looking for an AI Engineer :
Role Overview
The AI Engineer will join an innovative, multidisciplinary team applying machine learning and deep learning to real-world and high impact Exploration challenges. The role combines hands-on development of AI solutions and studies with experimentation on state-of-the-art methods, bridging innovation and operational impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate and contribute to AI studies to address frontier Exploration challenges: assessment of available data and their suitability, evaluation of the feasibility of AI-driven solutions, rapid prototyping, benchmarking of alternative approaches, and rigorous model evaluation and selection for operational deployment.
* Collaborate closely with geoscientists and domain experts to design, develop, and apply machine learning and deep learning models to key Exploration use cases using agile delivery approach (e.g., seismic interpretation, subsurface characterization, uncertainty quantification, …).
* Design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end machine learning pipelines, including data preparation, feature engineering, model training, validation, and large‑scale application to exploration datasets.
* Apply large‑scale AI methods to large and complex datasets, leveraging distributed computing environments and HPC to efficiently scale data processing, model training, and experimentation.
Candidate Profile
Expected profile:
* Masters or PhD in Machine learning, Data science or a highly quantitative field.
* Degree specialization or hands-on experience in applying AI to Subsurface data.
* Demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to continuously learn and experiment with emerging AI technologies with the goal of improving existing solutions and enabling new exploration capabilities.
* Communicate study results, insights, and conclusions effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, using clear documentation, presentations, and demonstrations.
Technical skills:
* Strong background in machine learning and deep learning, with hands-on experience in model development and evaluation.
* Proficiency in Python and common Machine Learning :
Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, scikit-learn).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on open-ended, complex problems.
* Experience working with large-scale, high-dimensional datasets and computationally intensive workflows on HPC is a plus.
Languages:
* English: level C1
* French: level B2/C1
