Lead Specialist - SQL Server Database Administration

Summary

Energy Transfer Partners is seeking a Microsoft SQL Server Administrator with extensive experience in managing and maintaining large, complex environments. The role involves designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and performance‑tuning production databases to ensure high levels of availability. Key responsibilities include ensuring all production databases are running 24×7 and that backups are performed correctly.

• Implement, configure, maintain, and tune critical SQL Server RDBMS systems.
• Ensure all production databases are up and running 24×7.
• Design and implement backup and restore strategies to protect data assets.
• Monitor database performance, including stored procedures and query execution times, and implement efficiency improvements.
• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
• Optimize physical data storage for database systems.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement database migrations and upgrades.
• Perform database security audits and establish appropriate access controls.
• Configure SQL for high performance, scalability, and availability.
• Work with SQL HADR technologies, including failover clustering and always‑on availability groups.
• Design and implement disaster recovery strategies.
• Participate in the on‑call rotation.
• Implement SQL encryption technologies including TDE and network traffic encryption.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in IT working in a MS SQL DBA capacity.
• Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
• Hands‑on database development, tuning, and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience migrating and upgrading SQL Server to newer versions.
• Team player with the ability and desire to rapidly learn complex technologies.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to conduct research into database/software issues, standards, and products as required.
• Highly self‑motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

• Senior IT Specialist:
  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5‑8 years of relevant experience.
• Lead IT Specialist:
  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Principal IT Specialist:
  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 10+ years of relevant experience.
