Job Summary
Position: IT Computer Operator – 2nd shift (2:30 PM – 10:30 PM), 2 days off per week (typically Sunday and Monday). The role is based at Nesco Resource, Houston, TX, and reports to the Shift Supervisor.
Primary duty is to monitor and control computer systems used for seismic data processing, ensuring proper job completion, resource allocation, and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain Linux and Windows operating systems, computer, disk, tape library, network, and infrastructure hardware.
- Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot seismic processing jobs on cluster computing systems.
- Use monitoring tools to report on data center safety, power, and cooling, and respond to system alerts.
- Enter commands, execute scripts, and use graphical interfaces to operate compute systems.
- Submit problem‑resolution tickets and record issues in daily operator logs.
- Monitor load adjustments and balance workloads across available cluster resources.
- Work with internal and external customers, vendors, and support teams to resolve system alerts and support calls.
- Participate in on‑the‑job training and formal classes to develop competency in data processing equipment.
- Comply with QHSE policies and objectives in the data center.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 6 months of related experience, training, or education.
- Advanced proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Strong communication, reporting, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and basic system support manuals.
- Writing routine reports and basic procedures; effective written and oral correspondence with internal customers and support staff.
- Regular standing, crouching, stooping, and walking; frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Work performed on‑premises in a data‑center environment.
- Proficiency with scheduling and monitoring tools (such as Omega OCM/OCM2).
- Ability to identify system issues, troubleshoot failures, and adjust job load as needed.
- Strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; ability to handle support tickets.
