Crude Oil Analyst
Location:
Houston, TX, US, 77019
The purpose of this position is to support Musket's crude trading operations from Houston, Texas by managing global crude balances, developing data-driven models, identifying trading opportunities, and providing real-time insights.
Major Responsibilities:
- Manage global crude oil supply/demand balances
- Develop quantitative models to optimize flows, blending, and capacity usage
- Develop systematic crude trading strategies using quantitative signals and backtesting
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, constraints, and commercial levers
- Integrate terminal, pipeline, refinery, and trading data into comprehensive models to reflect real-time inventory and movement dynamics
- Run scenarios and sensitivity analysis to support trading strategy
- Collaborate with trading, scheduling, and supply teams to align on assumptions
- Partner with internal developers or data science teams to enhance analytics and ensure scalability
- Automate tools and reporting dashboards for real-time decision-making
- Identify gaps in existing crude balancing frameworks and propose innovative, data-backed solutions
- Present insights and recommendations to commercial stakeholders

Education and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, or related discipline;
Master's degree a plus
Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in crude oil, energy trading, or commodity analytics
Experience working cross-functionally with traders, schedulers, and data/IT teams
Skills and Physical Demands:
Skills:
Strong understanding of crude oil markets, supply chains, and logistics (pipelines, terminals, marine, etc.)
Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and at least one programming language; experience with visualization tools
Practical experience with modern AI technologies, with the ability to effectively leverage advanced AI tools to improve analysis, automation, and decision-making
Ability to synthesize large datasets and translate outputs into actionable commercial insights
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear, concise manner
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
