Software Asset Manager

Our client it seeking an experienced IT Asset Manager to lead and mature our enterprise IT Asset Management (ITAM) function.

This role will be responsible for establishing governance, processes, controls, and reporting across the full lifecycle of hardware and software assets. The successful candidate will inherit a relatively low-maturity asset management environment and will be expected to assess current practices, identify gaps, implement improvements, and ultimately own the ongoing operation of the ITAM program.

This is not a Service Delivery Manager, Incident Manager, or IT Operations leadership role. We are specifically looking for someone with deep experience building, governing, and optimizing IT Asset Management programs.

• Lead the development and maturation of the enterprise IT Asset Management function.
• Establish, document, and maintain ITAM policies, processes, standards, and governance frameworks.
• Define asset lifecycle procedures covering procurement, deployment, inventory management, refresh planning, transfers, and disposal.
• Create and maintain process documentation, workflows, controls, and operational procedures.
• Develop training materials and educate stakeholders on asset management processes and responsibilities.

• Manage and govern hardware asset lifecycle activities including inventory accuracy, receiving, tracking, deployment, refresh planning, and retirement.
• Establish and mature Software Asset Management practices, including license tracking, entitlement management, compliance monitoring, vendor audits, and optimization opportunities.
• Improve visibility into hardware and software asset inventories across the enterprise.
• Implement procedures to ensure accurate asset ownership and lifecycle status tracking.

• Establish controls and governance practices to ensure accurate and reliable asset data.
• Define asset data standards, classifications, and reporting requirements.
• Monitor compliance with established asset management processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support audit activities and ensure asset records are properly maintained and traceable.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process maturity, efficiency, and accountability.

• Partner closely with Procurement, Infrastructure, End User Services, Security, and Finance teams.
• Support governance around hardware and software procurement processes.
• Help establish appropriate controls around asset receipt, deployment, ownership, and tracking.
• Ensure asset lifecycle activities align with organizational policies and financial management requirements.
• Work with global teams to drive consistency in asset management practices.

• Leverage enterprise ITSM and ITAM platforms to maintain asset inventories and lifecycle data.
• Partner with Configuration Management teams to ensure alignment between asset records and CMDB data.
• Manage reconciliation of discovered assets against asset inventories and investigate discrepancies.
• Develop dashboards, metrics, and reporting to provide leadership visibility into asset compliance, utilization, and lifecycle health.

• 10+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, with significant experience owning enterprise ITAM programs.
• Proven experience building, implementing, or maturing IT Asset Management functions and processes.
• Strong experience with Hardware Asset Management and Software Asset Management disciplines.
• Experience managing software licensing, compliance, entitlement tracking, optimization initiatives, and vendor audits.
• Experience developing governance frameworks, operational controls, and process documentation.
• Experience working closely with procurement organizations and asset acquisition processes.
• Experience establishing reporting, KPIs, and asset management performance metrics.
• Working knowledge of CMDB concepts and Configuration Management practices.
• Experience with enterprise ITSM and/or ITAM platforms (Ivanti experience is a plus).

• ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent IT Service Management experience.
• IT Asset Management certifications such as CHAMP, CSAM, CITAM, or similar.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale hardware and software asset environments.
• Experience working within organizations undergoing ITAM transformation or maturity improvement initiatives.

• Deep expertise in enterprise asset management rather than general IT operations.
• Ability to assess an immature environment and build sustainable processes from the ground up.
• Strong governance and compliance mindset.
• Comfortable driving change and influencing teams without direct authority.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and training skills.
• Ability to balance strategic program development with hands‑on execution.
