Trofeo Solutions is a Microsoft Data and AI consultancy. We help clients modernize their data estates on Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Our Fabric work runs from early discovery and capacity assessment through migration, implementation, and cutover. Recent clients come from private credit, legal, food and agriculture, and digital workplace services.
We are hiring a Fabric Architect to do two things. The first is to lead the architecture on our current Fabric engagements. The second is to build the practice itself, meaning the methods, standards, and reusable assets that let us take on more of this work and staff it well. You will own the Fabric architecture decisions on live projects, and you will decide how Trofeo delivers Fabric from here.
You report to the Director, Data and AI and work day to day with our data strategists, engineers, and Power BI developers.
What the role covers
- Delivery. You are the lead Fabric architect on client work. You design the target state, run the migrations and tenant consolidations, tune capacity and performance, and direct the engineers building with you.
- Practice. You turn repeated project work into a practice: productized offerings, reference architectures, playbooks, and estimation models, plus a team trained to use them, so we are not rebuilding the same foundations on every project.
Architecture and platform design
- Design the target state Fabric architecture for each client, covering One Lake, the Lakehouse, the Warehouse, and a bronze, silver, and gold medallion model, so it can serve as the governed system of record.
- Assess the Fabric estate and its readiness before any data moves in, including capacity sizing (for example, moving a workload from F64 to F32), workspace structure, and governance.
- Recommend the capacity configuration, set alerting thresholds, and define how the gold layer gets backed up and recovered.
Migration and engineering
- Lead migrations from on-premises SQL Server and other legacy estates into Fabric, rebuilding the stored procedure logic and the Azure Data Factory pipelines as Fabric pipelines and notebooks, and refining the data through the medallion layers.
- Find the stored procedures worth converting to PySpark and rank them by the effort involved and the performance and cost they save.
- Design the ingestion and transformation with Data Factory and Dataflows, and split the pipelines so the old and new environments run together until the numbers reconcile, before any cutover.
- Design streaming ingestion with Event Hubs, Event stream, and Spark Structured Streaming, pushing as much parallelism as the source systems allow within their rate limits.
Capacity, performance, and cost
- Work out what drives Fabric capacity cost across compute, storage, and data movement, using the Fabric Capacity Metrics app, and set a monthly run rate the client can plan against.
- Bring down processing time and cost through changes to the architecture, the pipelines, and the semantic models.
Semantic layer and Power BI
- Build and tune the Fabric semantic models and the Power BI layer, choosing between Direct Lake, Import, and composite storage, and tuning DAX, relationships, and aggregations.
- Deliver governed dashboards that people can open on demand in place of spreadsheet reporting, and hand over the patterns so client teams can carry the work themselves.
Security, governance, and cutover
- Set the workspace security and access controls that fit confidential client and matter data, plus a baseline for data classification and lineage, and Microsoft Purview cataloging where the client needs it.
- Run the tenant and workspace work end to end: consolidate one tenant into another, stand up an independent secured workspace, validate the data, hold a trust window, get users to sign off, then cut over, decommission the old tenant, and hand over the runbooks.
Advisory and leadership
- Turn discovery findings into phased, costed roadmaps, MVP plans, and business cases that show leaders the benefit and the cost in numbers.
- Lead the technical work across the work streams: direct the Fabric and data engineers and the Power BI engineers, work alongside client staff, and review what they build.
- Present findings and recommendations to client leaders and, where there is one, to the client's existing Microsoft partner.
Building the practice
- Stand up and lead Trofeo's Fabric practice, and set the delivery method, the architecture standards, and the quality gates the team works to.
- Create the reusable assets: reference architectures, delivery accelerators, migration and cutover playbooks, assessment frameworks for capacity and discovery, and estimation models.
- Package how we already deliver into named offerings, such as Fabric discovery and roadmap, Fabric migration, capacity tuning, and data warehouse discovery with a business case.
- Hire, mentor, and train Fabric and data engineers and Power BI developers, and build a bench that can be staffed against the pipeline and hold Microsoft certifications.
