POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Infrastructure Engineer II provides mid-level engineering support for the implementation, operation, maintenance, security, and improvement of Orion's infrastructure platforms across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This role combines hands‑on operational support with participation in infrastructure projects, change activities, compliance support, documentation discipline, and continuous improvement efforts. The Infrastructure Engineer II works under the direction of IT leadership while partnering with senior engineers, the Service Desk, Applications, and business stakeholders to maintain reliable, secure, and supportable infrastructure services that meet business needs.

Infrastructure security is a core part of this role. Because cybersecurity operations are owned within the Infrastructure team, the position includes hands‑on responsibility for day‑to‑day infrastructure security.

The position supports infrastructure reliability, availability, standardization, and security by maintaining core systems, following established standards, documenting work clearly, and contributing practical recommendations that improve operational consistency and service quality.

This role supports infrastructure technologies and services including networking, remote access, servers, storage, Microsoft 365, identity services, virtualization, security tooling, monitoring, backup, and related operational processes.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure operations and engineering support

  • Provide day‑to‑day operational support for Orion's infrastructure environment, including proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, remediation, and operational follow-through.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, remediate, and perform root‑cause analysis across infrastructure technologies including but not limited to, SD‑WAN, firewalls, switches, VPN/remote access, servers, storage, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra , Windows Server, VMware, and related platforms.
  • Assist with monitoring, alerting, backup, disaster recovery readiness, and operational reliability practices to help maintain uptime, recoverability, and service continuity.

Project participation and delivery support

  • Support infrastructure projects and assigned initiatives through implementation, testing, documentation, coordination, and transition to steady‑state operations while following approved designs, timelines, budgets, and change control requirements.
  • Participate in infrastructure changes, upgrades, and maintenance activities by documenting work performed and communicating status, risks, issues, and follow-up items to leadership and stakeholders as appropriate.

Security, compliance, and control support

  • Support infrastructure security and compliance activities by assisting with configuration standards, patching, secure access tasks, evidence collection, audit support, and remediation of identified findings in alignment with company policies, procedures, standards, and applicable control requirements.
  • Perform hands‑on infrastructure security operations as a function owned within the Infrastructure team, including vulnerability scanning and remediation, endpoint protection/EDR administration, security log and alert review, identity hardening (MFA and conditional access), email security, and timely handling of infrastructure‑related security incidents and tickets.
  • Follow established infrastructure standards, documentation expectations, and change control requirements; ensure assigned work is completed in a manner that supports auditability, operational consistency, and policy compliance.

  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, reliability, security, documentation, and standardization; participate in continuous improvement efforts that reduce repeat issues and improve operational consistency.
