Network Engineer
Network Infrastructure Support
This position involves supporting and maintaining the network infrastructure critical to FAA air traffic operations. The role requires managing various network systems, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless solutions, to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. It offers an opportunity to contribute to national aviation safety initiatives through federal program support.
Responsibilities- Ensure the uptime, performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Support SD-WAN solutions across distributed network environments.
- Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
- Perform fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools.
- Monitor systems daily, analyze logs, and respond to incidents promptly.
- Troubleshoot network issues across fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers, escalating as needed.
- Support network cutovers, migrations, and validate failover procedures.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configuration records.
- Support travel to multiple regional locations, with expenses reimbursed.
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Proven experience managing and supporting enterprise network environments.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking technologies.
- Experience with TDM-to-IP migrations and modern IP-based networks.
- Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, and wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network monitoring tools such as Solar Winds or Nagios.
- Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and schematics.
- Experience with fiber testing tools like OTDR.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills.
Publishing Pay Range: $61.00 – $66.00 hourly
This position is based in the Houston, TX area and requires working on-site.
