This is a grant-funded position.
Position OverviewUnder the supervision of the DevOPS Manager of the Operation and Technology Services Office, the Senior Data Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines and collection systems at Harris County Public Health. The Senior Data Engineer will oversee data integration work, develop data models, maintain a data warehouse that support efficient data analysis and reporting. The Senior Data Engineer will provide technical guidance to others and recommend system improvements.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Maintain and build out data warehouse and analytics environment.
- Develop data pipelines, collection systems, and data models that support data analysis and reporting needs.
- Research ways to improve data collection and processing.
- Collaborate with data analytics teams across Harris County Public Health to provide efficient and relevant datasets.
- Share knowledge to compliment team-wide expertise.
- Communicate project status, risks, milestones, and assigned roles and responsibilities to cross-departmental stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned include special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

Education- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field
- 8 (eight) years of experience in database administration.
- 5 (five) years of experience with Stored Procedures, advanced query functions like Common Table Expressions, Pivots, etc. and other advanced RDBMS tasks
- 5 (five) years of experience with SSIS.
- 3 (three) years of experience practicing agile principles.
- 3 (three) years of working with HIPAA protected data.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong SQL skills and database architecture.
