About the TeamYou will join a collaborative team of experienced underwriters dedicated to profit‑oriented underwriting of large and middle‑market construction and renewable energy risks. This dynamic and highly collaborative group of underwriters is focused on profitably underwriting Renewable Energy risks—both onshore and offshore, in construction and operation.
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated, results‑driven Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to strengthen our Engineering & Construction portfolio in the United States.
Responsibilities- Support the profitable growth of the US Renewable Energy portfolio while helping expand Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' market footprint.
- Underwrite construction and operational risks in line with Swiss Re's underwriting standards, philosophy, and risk appetite—focusing on Renewable Energy (Onshore Wind, Solar, BESS, Offshore Wind) across both Construction and Operational phases. You will also have opportunities to underwrite traditional power construction risks.
- Identify client needs and growth opportunities, developing tailored solutions in close partnership with clients and brokers.
- Actively contribute to the global Swiss Re Renewable Energy community through knowledge sharing, training, special projects, and research initiatives.
- Maintain high‑quality underwriting documentation, ensure accurate data capture in underwriting systems, and follow through on post‑bind activities (endorsements, premium follow‑up, claims information, filings).
- Support cross‑selling opportunities across Swiss Re Corporate Solutions by collaborating with colleagues across business lines.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; a background in Science or Engineering is preferred.
- Experience underwriting Power/Energy Property and/or Construction risks:
- Senior Underwriter: 6–10 years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of the US insurance market and an established network of Construction and Power/Energy brokers.
- Solid knowledge of Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind, BESS) and/or traditional power generation.
- Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrates a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and thrives in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel 10–20% within the USA.
- Fluency in English.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $240,000 for Chicago (IL), Alpharetta (GA), Houston (TX) and $168,000 to $252,000 for New York City. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
