The successful candidate must demonstrate diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity to cultural diversity working in a global landscape. The ability to provide business-focused and cost-efficient advice in a challenging operating and legal environment is crucial.
The ideal candidate will have expertise with data privacy laws globally, network security concepts, technologies, data governance, and artificial intelligence.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable foreign, federal and state data privacy laws and industry standards. Support the maintenance of the data privacy program.
- Advise clients on the implementation of new regulations applicable to data privacy, data assessments, data governance, and IT programs.
- Provide guidance on legal and regulatory requirements related to privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data protection.
- Interface with leadership, operational teams, IT, and other legal groups to translate legal requirements into operational controls, ensuring compliance with international, federal, and state laws.
- Assess potential legal risks and liabilities associated with data privacy incidents, data breaches, and privacy breaches.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop strategies for mitigating and managing legal risks.
- Provide legal counsel to IT Forensics during investigations and serve as legal contact for incident response efforts across international jurisdictions.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and excellent academic credentials. Current active admission to a U.S. Bar required.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience practicing law with a focus on data privacy, data protection, or similar regulatory compliance matters. Privacy, cybersecurity, or AI-related certification (e.g., CIPP/E, AIGP) preferred.
- Strong interest in technology and understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to data protection on a global basis.
- Demonstrated experience advising clients in business, corporate, and transactional matters; proven client counseling skills, including advising clients of potential legal risks.
- Superb interpersonal skills with inherent sound business judgment and discretion.
