Business Law, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Caturus, LLC is an integrated natural gas and LNG company focused on responsible sourcing of low-emission fuel to domestic and international markets. We are seeking a Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support and strategic guidance across the Company’s upstream and downstream operations. The position will be responsible for drafting, negotiating, and advising on a broad range of oil and gas agreements, supporting regulatory compliance, managing disputes and pre‑litigation matters, and helping the business navigate complex legal, commercial, and regulatory issues throughout the energy value chain.
The role will be based on-site and report to the Chief Legal Officer.
- Analyze, draft and negotiate a wide range of oil and gas agreements, including: commodity sale and purchase agreements; gathering, processing, transportation and storage agreements; confidentiality and services agreements; and other agreements applicable to upstream, midstream and downstream operations.
- Handling pre-litigation claims relating to oil and gas operations.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local legal developments affecting upstream and downstream operations, including regulations promulgated by FERC, DOE, BLM, EPA, USCG, DOT, Texas RRC and LDC&E.
- Advise on federal, state and private royalty obligations and payments, including: interpreting leases and applicable laws and regulations and supporting the resolution of royalty disputes.
- Support commercial and operations teams in managing contractual performance issues, force majeure events, change‑in‑law provisions, outages, and operational disruptions.
- Provide legal advice on federal and state advocacy for legislation and rule making.
- Support resolution of disputes with counter parties and stakeholders.
- Possess and maintain subject matter expertise on essential laws and regulations affecting oil and gas operations, particularly within Texas and Louisiana.

Education, Certificates, and Licenses- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school required.
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas required.
- Prior in-house counsel experience at an energy or natural resources companies preferred.
- 2+ years of legal experience required.
- Experience with oil & gas contract negotiations is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of oil & gas law across the upstream and downstream value chain.
- Relevant experience in a corporate, law firm or government agency handling oil and gas regulatory issues and negotiating oil and gas agreements.
- Ability to think strategically on both the immediate and long-term business impacts of different legal courses of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively advise clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
