Job OverviewThe Project Buyer IV (Electrical) is responsible for managing end-to-end procurement activities in support of large-scale capital projects. This role acts as a strategic partner to project teams, overseeing sourcing initiatives, competitive bidding, contract negotiations, and purchase order activities while ensuring compliance with procurement policies and governance requirements. The successful candidate will support complex electrical procurement initiatives, manage supplier relationships, mitigate procurement risks, and help ensure critical materials and services are secured to meet project timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Lead sourcing activities for complex, high-value, and long lead-time electrical equipment and service contracts supporting large capital expansion projects.
- Identify opportunities for early market commitments to secure supplier capacity and support project in-service dates.
- Collaborate with SCM Business Partners, Category Managers, and project teams to develop sourcing strategies for complex materials and services.
- Lead the full sourcing process, including RFx development, proposal solicitation, bid evaluation, technical and commercial clarifications, negotiations, and contract execution.
- Develop and maintain procurement plans, forecasts, reports, and communications related to SCM activities.
- Identify procurement risks and contribute to appropriate risk mitigation plans and strategies.
- Collaborate with internal SCM teams, including Governance, Quality, Legal, and Expediting, to support project deliverables and procurement objectives.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with SCM policies, procedures, and enterprise governance requirements.
- Review and negotiate complex commercial contracts and agreements.
- Explain deviations from standard terms and conditions to business stakeholders and recommend alternative commercial positions when appropriate.
- Monitor supplier relationships and performance with minimal supervision.
- Create and manage purchase orders using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- University degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum seven (7) years of related experience in supply chain management or procurement.
- Demonstrated experience purchasing complex electrical equipment for large-scale energy projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing, marking up, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Ability to explain deviations from standard terms and conditions and work with business stakeholders to reach agreement or develop alternative solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of RFx development and execution, contract preparation, and contract management.
- Ability to independently monitor and manage supplier relationships and performance.
- Experience using ERP systems for purchase order creation and management, specifically Oracle R12 or Oracle Cloud.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Ten (10) or more years of procurement experience within the power, electrical transmission, liquids, or natural gas energy industries.
- Postgraduate qualification or Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or equivalent professional designation is an asset.
- Typical office environment.
- Minimal travel required.
