Job Summary
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for accurately picking, packing, and shipping customer orders—including domestic and international (export) shipments—while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This role ensures that products are prepared, packaged, documented, and shipped in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, international trade regulations, and carrier guidelines. The Shipping Clerk plays a critical role in meeting delivery commitments by verifying order accuracy, preventing damage, ensuring export compliance, and supporting efficient warehouse operations.
EssentialFunctions
- Pick customer orders accurately from inventory using pick lists, ERP system, and/or shipping documentation to ensure correct items and quantities are selected.
- Pack products securely and efficiently using appropriate materials and methods to prevent damage during handling and transit while meeting customer, carrier, and international shipping requirements.
- Prepare shipments for outbound delivery, including labeling, weighing, staging, and verifying shipment accuracy prior to carrier pickup.
- Prepare and process export shipments, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations, customs requirements, and company policies (e.g., commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, export declarations).
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to ensure timely and accurate export shipments.
- Verify export documentation accuracy, including HTS codes, country of origin, and shipment values to ensure compliance with U.S. export regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of export compliance requirements, including EAR/ITAR regulations where applicable, and elevate issues when needed.
- Monitor and respond to group email inboxes, communicating promptly with Receiving, Customer Service, and Operations to support daily workflow and resolve shipping–related questions.
- Complete required shipping documentation and system transactions accurately and timely, ensuring shipment records, tracking information, and inventory updates are correct for both domestic and export shipments.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues to resolve discrepancies, communicate delivery issues, and support smooth hand‑offs between warehouse and other areas.
- Operate material‑handling equipment safely, such as pallet jacks or forklifts, and follow all safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Two years of experience in shipping/receiving preferred.
- Experience operating material‑handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks); forklift certification preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read, analyze, and follow written instructions.
- Comfortable handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication skills.
- PC skills – Microsoft Office and ERP systems knowledge.
- Experience with international shipping/export documentation and compliance preferred.
- Familiarity with export regulations (EAR/ITAR), Incoterms, and HTS classification is a plus.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials as required.
- Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift material up to 35 pounds as needed.
- Ability to work in warehouse conditions subject to seasonal temperature variations.
