ZL Group - Houston, Texas
Full-Time | Supply Chain | Reports to Supply Chain Director | 8+ years experience
ZL Group is a global specialty chemicals company serving the oil and gas industry, with operations in Canada, the United States, and Oman. In North America, we supply enhanced oil recovery chemistry, friction reducer and polymer products to operators across the Permian Basin and Western Canada, supported by manufacturing and supply points in Oman and Asia and by our warehouse and distribution operations in Odessa, Texas.
TheOpportunity
We are hiring a Supply Chain Manager to own our vendor base across the United States and Canada, and to run the North American demand and supply planning cycle end to end. This is a newly created role based in Houston, reporting to the Supply Chain Director.
Today, North American vendor management runs out of Vancouver, and the demand-to-supply cycle for product supplied from China and Oman is handled alongside other priorities. The US rollout of our Vantis enhanced oil recovery platform adds a chemicals-specific supply base - raw materials, tolling, blending and drumming, hazardous-materials transport - that needs a single owner. You will be that owner, with a clear mandate and defined outcomes from day one.
WhatYou'll Do
- Own the USA and Canada vendor base as one managed portfolio: sourcing, qualification, contracting and supplier performance.
- Build and maintain a full vendor map covering spend, contract status, lead times and single-source risk.
- Own the Vantis project supply base and issue the supply plan: bill of materials, qualified suppliers, lead times and a critical-path procurement schedule.
- Run the monthly North American demand review, balancing customer orders against supply from China and Oman.
- Convert demand into a blending production plan and stock allocation by location, agreed with the Logistics Manager.
- Manage customs, hazardous-materials and dangerous-goods compliance across US, Canada and inbound Asia and Middle East shipments.
- Deliver measurable landed-cost reduction against a baseline you set.
- Lead and develop the US supply chain team.
- 8+ years in supply chain, procurement or supply planning, including management experience.
- Personal end-to-end ownership of a North American vendor base across both the US and Canada.
- Chemicals or process-industry procurement depth: raw materials, tolling, blending and drumming.
- Hands-on hazardous and dangerous-goods transport experience, plus US-Canada customs and imports from Asia and the Middle East.
- Demonstrated demand review and supply planning ownership: production or blending plans and multi-location stock allocation.
- A record of delivering to a project schedule by planning rather than expediting.
- Savings you can evidence with a baseline, a method and verified numbers.
- Professional certification (CPSM, CSCP, APICS or equivalent).
- Experience in oilfield chemicals, enhanced oil recovery, or friction reducer products.
- Experience standing up a supply base for a new product or technology launch.
- Newly created role with genuine end-to-end ownership, not a transactional purchasing seat.
- Direct involvement in the US rollout of the Vantis platform, our most significant growth program.
- Clear written success criteria at 90 days and 12 months, agreed before you start.
- Structured onboarding, including a week in Vancouver for handover of the North American vendor base.
- Global specialty chemicals business with operations across Canada, the United States and Oman.
