We are looking for a skilled Stationary Engineer to operate and maintain utility‑related building systems such as chilled water, steam, compressed air, vacuum, and heating hot water. The role involves monitoring system performance, conducting repairs, and executing preventive maintenance to ensure optimal functionality and reliability of all utility equipment.

Research and Administrative Facilities (RAF) was established to meet the specialized needs of MD Anderson researchers, administration faculty, and staff. Operations and Maintenance provides building support for all research and administrative areas and delivers preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and emergency response.

Ideal candidate will hold a First or Second Grade Licensed Stationary Engineer issued by the City of Houston. A third‑grade boiler license is required.

Work Schedule:

Thursday & Friday, 10:30 pm–7 am;
Saturday & Sunday, 6:30 pm–7 am.

Salary Range: $57,500 – $86,500.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and optimize use of natural resources (electricity, natural gas, domestic water, sewer) that impact building equipment and systems.
  • Use the building automation system (BAS) to monitor all central plant equipment and support equipment.
  • Conduct process water chemistry analysis, adjust chemicals, and document test results and chemical feed changes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective actions, and inspections on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, vacuum pumps, compressed air systems, and other central utility equipment.
  • Respond to and triage critical equipment alarms; make repairs as necessary.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections by external agencies and internal/external maintenance work.
  • Order materials, maintain inventory, and assist in project design phases and review processes.
  • Inspect contracted and internal work to ensure compliance with repairs and installations.
  • Preheat throughout day as required; may precept staff.
  • Maintain accurate water usage logs and process water test results.
  • Submit work requests and communicate status to on‑site team members.
  • Help manage work order backlog (PM and corrective).
  • Assist with orientation and training of South Campus O&M employees.
  • Provide backup support for refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance crafts.
  • Work alternate shifts if needed to cover vacancies.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience working with boiler systems, chillers/cooling towers, and/or water treatment systems in a large central plant.
  • First or Second Grade Licensed Stationary Engineer issued by the City of Houston (preferred).
  • Valid Class A, B, or C Texas driver’s license and eligibility to drive state and institutional vehicles.
  • Class D Water Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (preferred).
  • Universal Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (preferred).
  • Ability to conduct and maintain security and integrity of critical infrastructure, including routine reviews and screenings as required by Texas law.
