Key Qualifications
- Strong communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of controls and building automation (Johnson Controls preferred).
- Experience troubleshooting instrumentation and HVAC systems.
Position Summary
Provides advanced skilled work in the efficient and effective installation, maintenance, and application of digital controls and building automation systems in the monitoring and operation of building equipment used to support and maintain the environment within administrative, service, and research facilities campus‑wide.
Key Accountabilities
- Maximize utility savings and operational control using EMCS/BAS.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, lighting, and related equipment.
- Configure control systems, write programs, and set alarm limits.
- Respond to environmental calls and troubleshoot associated systems.
- Collaborate with Director of Controls, Project Management, and Maintenance to review project information.
- Complete work orders via CMMS and provide weekly activity summaries.
- Carry university communication device and respond to calls during business hours.
Certification / Skills
- Advanced BAS skills.
- Advanced understanding of laboratory environmental systems controls.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Familiar with BACnet and other gateway protocols.
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, and basic electronics.
- Proficiency with electrical testing instruments.
Minimum Education
Associate’s Degree in HVAC or Instrumentation. Equivalent experience may substitute.
Minimum Experience
5 years of commissioning, installing, and operating direct digital controls without supervision.
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 50 lbs of force intermittently and up to 20 lbs frequently.
Security Sensitive
Position requires maintaining security of critical infrastructure per Texas Education Code.
