As a compactor technician, you will play a vital role in the maintenance and repair of compactors and balers used for waste management, big box store and multi-tenant facilities. Your expertise will ensure that these machines are operating efficiently and effectively, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. This is a hands‑on position that requires the ability to diagnose and repair trash compactors, including electrical and hydraulic components.
This role can also include site repairs such as bailers, tarps and chutes. When there isn’t enough sitework, you may be asked to work in the shop on assembling power units or other mechanical or welding tasks. The standard hours are 6:00‑3:30 with overtime and on‑call required. This is a REMOTE opportunity
, you will not be required to report to an office but will be dispatched to calls from your home.
- Diagnose and identify issues with compactors quickly and accurately
- Weld as required
- Use diagnostic, repair and maintenance tools efficiently
- Understand the principles behind compactor operations and troubleshoot effectively
- Lift heavy equipment and perform physical tasks associated with mechanical repairs
- Maintain stamina for physically demanding responsibilities
- Keep accurate records of repairs, parts used, maintenance activities and time spent on job
- Provide detailed reports before and after repairs are completed
- Apply creative problem‑solving and analytical thinking to complex issues
- Clean and lubricate compactors to prevent wear and tear
- Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting to minimize downtime
- Interface with PLC systems, limit switches, photo‑eye sensors and solenoids
- Adhere to safety protocols and implement safety measures during repairs
- Communicate clearly with customers and colleagues about issues and repairs
- Explain technical details to non‑technical individuals
- Deliver excellent customer service and ensure customer
- Manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks based on urgency
- Notice small details and anomalies that may indicate larger issues
- Inspect, repair, and test equipment thoroughly
- Adapt to different machine types (compactors, balers, chutes)
- Stay updated with industry advancements and new technologies
- Mentor junior technicians in compactor maintenance and repair
- Assemble power units in the shop
- Attend and teach training sessions with other technicians
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience as a compactor technician or similar role
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical components
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work environment and schedules
- Willingness to learn new techniques and machines while keeping up with industry standards
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the company
- Uphold high standards of ethics and integrity
