To manage, lead and coordinate the warehouse operations team at the VLC, Houston warehouse. To ensure that the operations team is prepared to receive inbound and despatch outbound deliveries in a planned and controlled approach in line with company requirements. To plan logistics, labour and equipment resource to process goods receiving, internal warehouse processing, outbound activities including logistics planning and freight carrier management, and reverse logistics and refurbishment processes, all in line with agreed site capacity and resource plans.
To work with key internal and external stakeholders to actively improve inbound and outbound delivery in full and on time (DIFOT) throughout the business.
- Plan, manage, schedule and evaluate the warehouse operations team liaising with key internal and external stakeholders
- Create and implement best practice company warehousing principles, procedures, policies and processes across the site to improve operational and financial performance
- Understand the current import and export shipping market, and the requirements therefore placed upon the warehouse team to support current legislation
- Deliver solutions to warehouse operations challenges while maintaining high levels of quality and service within budgetary requirements
- The planning and coordination of all labour and equipment resource in line with operational requirements
- Ensure the warehouse operations team maintain integrity of stock inventory accuracy and proactively manage stock movements within the operation
- Identify and resolve any stock inventory discrepancies and ensure WMS inventory and SAP system records are in alignment
- Support the stock control team by providing daily routine stock counts and undertaking quarterly and year end full stock-takes
- Interpret trends and analyse and review data in order to provide meaningful logistics data and KPI reports to others in the organisation to aid customer service and cost improvements
- Monitor KPIs to ensure the warehouse operation is meeting business requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities
- Identify savings by removing waste or unnecessary steps in the warehousing and freight management processes
- Promote and deliver the company values (POPE)
- Build and maintain an effective warehouse operations team by coaching, training and development, and support the broader business via knowledge transfer
- Develop the warehouse operations team’s capability to ensure staff retention, ongoing development and succession planning. This includes timely and regular employee skills and performance reviews.
- Ensure all warehouse peripheral duties are carried out and followed as per the operational handbook
- Ensure all areas are clear and safe at all times and meet the required standards
- Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
- Drive a culture of safety and welfare, and upgrade existing processes to ensure the health and safety of employees
- Ensure safety is paramount at all times to all colleagues and visitors entering the warehouse
- Ensure all non CMS visitors including drivers are monitored
- Be a key holder ensuring the site is locked and alarmed at close of business (in conjunction with the security team)
- Ensuring staff diligence with regard to security is paramount
- Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the company, people and operation
- Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
- Strong planning and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects through to completion and to manage competing priorities
- Skilled in leveraging supply chain efficiencies through effective planning
- Previous experience of Inbound, Outbound and Reverse Logistics to include interaction with 3PL freight carrier service providers
- Knowledge of import and export legislative requirements
- Previous experience of freight and warehouse operations (logistics planning, goods receiving, pick, pack & despatch)
- Strong IT systems knowledge including Microsoft Office, WMS & SAP systems
- Complete understanding of physical stock flows, processes and systems throughout the business
- Experience of designing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate data and provide meaningful information
